Derek Volkin is a Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) and Massachusetts Licensed Site Professional (LSP). He has over three decades of experience investigating environmental claims and overseeing and managing environmental clean-up operations to ensure the appropriateness of remedial operations and costs throughout the United States. His work includes litigation support; investigating complex liability claims filed against environmental consultants and contractors; and examining complex claims involving commingled contamination, forensic petroleum age dating, and gasoline station accidents.
Derek is an environmental expert for insurance companies, adjustors, homeowners, commercial and industrial property owners/operators, contractors, municipalities, and legal firms. He has investigated and managed thousands of environmental claims associated with releases of oil and/or hazardous materials. His work includes evaluating causation and developing strategies to navigate through the regulatory process to achieve timely and cost-effective closure.
Derek has designed and managed numerous forensic investigations involving complex chemical characterization and differentiation of commingled contaminant plumes. He provides analysis of numerous claims utilizing various forensic age dating techniques to achieve defensible and favorable outcomes. His expert review and case analysis result in effective support of settlements, subrogation, and defense. He has a successful and proven track record providing expert witness services in arbitrations, depositions, and trials.
Derek has extensive experience directing emergency response actions and remediation of oil and/or hazardous materials at residential, commercial, and industrial properties, airports, and roadways. He has designed and conducted hundreds of subsurface investigations to evaluate the nature and extent of contamination and develop cost-effective remedial strategies. He has prepared hundreds of regulatory reports to maintain regulatory compliance and achieve closure in accordance with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) as well as other state regulations. He has also assisted insurance underwriting with evaluation of environmental risks at industrial and chemical facilities.
Rena Kobey is a regulatory specialist with over 15 years of industry experience. She has a proven track record in project management and strategy, with an emphasis on achieving cost-effective and timely solutions.
Rena investigates environmental claims and manages cleanup costs for clients. Her extensive experience in investigation, remediation and cost-management ensures the cleanup work is necessary, reasonable, and focused on achieving cost-effective solutions.
Rena has extensive experience on projects ranging from leaking underground and aboveground storage tanks, releases from vehicles and equipment, and historical releases on commercial and industrial properties. Focusing on cost management while achieving timely closure, Rena helps clients navigate the regulations and achieve the investigation and cleanup objectives, always prioritizing each client’s needs.
Rena is an associate member of the Licensed Site Professional (LSP) Association with proven knowledge of the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) as well as other state regulations.
